Welcome to the second issue of "Antioch Update," a weekly electronic newsletter that we are sending to the Antioch community to keep everyone updated on College and University news. Recent updates at Antioch include:

Alumni Board Treasurer Meets with Chancellor’s Staff

In a spirit of collaboration and openness, CFO Tom Faecke and Chancellor Toni Murdock met with Alumni Board Treasurer Rick Daily, Laura Fathauer and Jason Fregeau on September 6 to review in detail 28 financial documents that were essential to the decision the Board of Trustees made to suspend operations of the College

This information had been offered to the Alumni Board at the Trustees’ meeting on August 25 when the Trustees committed to working collaboratively with Alumni Board to allow them develop a sustainable financial and academic plan for the continued operation of the College. In addition, discussions took place and the Alumni Board agreed to set priorities for, and work closely with the Advancement Office regarding future fundraising efforts.

Dr. Irwin Abrams, world authority on the Nobel Peace Prize, honored: Notable Peace Scholar Inducted into Walk of Fame

Dr. Irwin Abrams, Distinguished University Professor Emeritus and Professor of History Emeritus at Antioch College – a world authority on the Nobel Peace Prize -- will be included in the 2007 class of inductees to the Walk of Fame. The Walk of Fame’s purpose is to recognize and celebrate the lives and accomplishments of individuals who have made outstanding personal or professional contributions.

A Weekly Conversation with Chancellor Toni Murdock

Listen to station manager Paul Maassen and Chancellor Toni Murdock as they discuss current events at Antioch. The Q and A includes questions to Chancellor Murdock about the progress being made on the proposed Alumni Board plan, along with other issues that have been raised that week. College Financial Data Posted

If you are interested in a summary of the financial data the Board used in its June 9 decision to suspend operations at the College, a summary has been posted on the College web site. This information, in much greater detail, has been provided to the Alumni Board in a collaborative effort to assist its board members in their development of a business plan for a financially sustainable College.

College Revival Fund Reaches $12 Million

The College Revival fund has reached a total of $12 million in cash and pledges, an amount equal to the entire endowment of Bennington College. Donors have earmarked the money to be used only for the continuation of Antioch as a residential undergraduate College with a tenured faculty that is moving toward a system of self-governance. For more information about the College Revival Fund or the efforts to keep Antioch College open past the proposed July 2008 suspension, please visit www.antiochians.org.

Antioch University McGregor Moves

McGregor moved into its new building the week of September 5th. Classes in all programs begin by September 22nd, and McGregor officials now are busy with activities ranging from registration and admissions to some early program starts. McGregor staff and faculty are excited about the new campus, its 23 classrooms, 250-seat auditorium and 120-seat multi-purpose room for classes and use by the community. Transition Fair at the College

Students transitioning from the College during or after the 2007-08 academic year attended an Antioch College Transfer Fair last weekend. All Antioch campuses were represented on the first day to offer information about their undergraduate and graduate academic programs. Students at the fair also were able to meet with officials from more than 35 colleges and universities to explore options at those institutions, as well as those at the College’s Antioch Education Abroad program.

Neal King Inauguration Oct. 2-5

Neal King will be officially inaugurated Oct. 2-5 as the first president of Antioch University Los Angeles in events rich with visual art, music, dance and academic traditions.

A psychologist by training, President King joined Antioch in the fall of 2004 as Antioch New England’s academic dean and nine months later was appointed interim president. President King currently serves on three of the six regional accrediting bodies for higher education in the United States. Read More at Antioch Los Angeles www.antiochla.edu
