1. Who may use this service?
Interlibrary loan (ILL), is available to all Antioch college and university students, faculty, staff, and emeriti. We make every effort to fill every request. We cannot offer ILL services for Yellow Springs residents. The Yellow Springs Public Library can provide that service.2. What does it cost?
Acquiring books through interlibrary loan is normally free of charge. Patrons receiving photocopies through interlibrary loan are usually charged a service fee of .10 cents a page. Some lending libraries, especially those in larger institutions, often have higher and/or minimum lending charges for interlibrary loan service. While every effort is made to avoid borrowing from these libraries, charges must be passed on to the patron when borrowing from these libraries. We shall not request loans requiring additional charges without receiving approval from the borrower.
ILL charges for faculty members are passed on to their departments.
3. How to request items throught the interlibrary loan office
Patrons must fill out one request form for each item they wish to borrow, a blue form for a book or a white form for an article. These forms are in the black divider located by the front door. You must fill out the entire form and you must print legibly. All completed forms should be given to a circulation attendant or be placed on the ILL desk. It will take 3-10 days for your book or article to arrive. You must pay for your ILL when you pick it up. Articles are yours to keep. They need not be returned.
You must request a renewal approximately one week before your book is due. The loaning library renews books at their discretion but usually Interlibrary Loan books can be renewed one time.
Books must be returned when due to the circulation desk or the ILL desk. There is a fine of $3.00 per day for each book.
4. Picking up and returning interlibrary loan materials
The interlibrary loan office will normally notify you when your material has arrived either by campus mail (look for a yellow card) or by phone. Be sure to read the yellow notification card. It doesn't always state that ILL material has arrived. Patrons are welcome to stop by the office to check the status of their requests. Materials can be picked up anytime the library is open. Please come to the processing office or inquire at the circulation desk. BOOKS: Do NOT remove the band from the book.
We have completed all the paperwork. The book is ready for you to take.
PHOTOCOPIES: All payments are made to the interlibrary loan office.
When you are returning an ILL book, please bring it to the circulation desk or the interlibrary loan desk in the processing office. Do NOT return ILL materials to their orginating libraries! We can return materials to other libraries that you have borrowed directly.
5. Direct borrowing at other libraries
OhioLINK member libraries provide all Antioch College students with direct borrowing privileges. You must have a current Antioch I.D. or Antioch library card and one other form of identification, such as a driver's license. When borrowing directly you are subject to each library's procedures and policies for borrowing.
All students residing in Yellow Springs, on or off campus, may get a library card from the Yellow Springs Public Library. If you are a resident of Ohio you may obtain a card. You will need an Antioch I.D. card to get a library card and proof of current address. This card allows you to borrow from the entire Greene County (OH) Public Library system. The Greene County Public Library will not provide you with interlibrary loan services. You will be referred back to Antioch for that service.
6. ADDITIONAL INTERLIBRARY LOAN POLICIES
There is a limit of ten ILL requests a day per patron. If you have a special case and wish for an exception to this limit, please see the interlibrary loan librarian. If you must have a book in less than five days, no attempt will be made to order it through ILL because of variable factors which preclude a guarantee that the book will arrive here on time.
We must have a way to contact you if you are going to use ILL service. We cannot order books that are required texts for the entire class. All requests are subject to national, state and local ILL codes. You will be charged $3.00 for every day you have an ILL book overdue. Replacement charges for ILL books begin at $100.00. We cannot order a book that we own, even if the book is in circulation. We usually are able to obtain one renewal for ILL books, but we shall not request more than one renewal. If you need a renewal please contact the ILL assistant before the due date. Do not plan on using an ILL book for an entire quarter. All ILL books are due before the end of each quarter, even if requested late in the quarter.
We usually cannot get books that are less than one year old. Occasionally the lending library places restrictions (e.g. in-library use only, no renwewals) on certain books. You must abide by those restrictions. We do not accept ILL requests over the phone. We do not accept requests for renewals over the phone.
7. GUIDELINES FOR STUDENTS NOT RESIDING ON THE COLLEGE CAMPUS
Students who do not live within the Miami Valley area are limited in the type of interlibrary loan service they may receive. You do have the same borrowing privileges for Antioch library materials as all other students. If we have the book you need in our circulating collection, we can send it to you. We might request postal compensation from students living off the mainland of the United States. We can order articles that you need or photocopy articles from journals in our collection and send them to you by first-class mail. The .10 cent/page charge applies to both. Except in rare circumstances, we do not fax articles. If you live in another state, you do not have borrowing privileges at the Greene County Public Library. We are unable to procure books from the other libraries and send them to you. Your local public library should be able to provide you with interlibrary loan service for books and articles. If you have any questions regarding interlibrary loan, please contact us by phone or email.
