Marketing and Education Specialist
The Marketing and Education Specialist is a seasonal position operating out of Trailside Museum in Glen Helen. The primary responsibility of the specialist is to educate visitors on the importance of Glen Helen Association membership. Other responsibilities include:
- Greet and welcome visitors to Glen Helen
- Inform visitors of membership drive and importance of membership
- Answer routine Glen Helen/interpretive questions
- Accumulate visitor sign-ins; handle gift shop sales within Trailside Museum
- Work alongside Trailside volunteers and other Glen Helen staff
- Additional marketing/education responsibilities, as necessary
Prior experience in public relations or sales is required. Naturalist/interpretive training a plus. Marketing and Education Specialist must possess outstanding communication skills. Must be able to work well with a broad range of people, and with minimal supervision. Weekend, as well as evening work may be required.
The duration of the position will be Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Salary is $7.00/hr plus commissions, for approx. 28 hours per week. Two positions are available.

Naturalist Internships
The Outdoor Education Center in conjunction with Antioch College offers environmental education internships two times a year (January to June and August to December). Imagine spending an academic term instilling environmental awareness with the thousand-acre nature preserve as your outdoor classroom.
Naturalist interns teach environmental and natural history curriculum to elementary and middle school students participating in the Glen Helen residential program. Educational hikes focus on environmental problem solving, geology, stream study, wildlife ecology, living history, and other related topics.
Interns earn 10 graduate or 12 undergraduate credits through Antioch College. Interns are also provided with room and board (including vegetarian and vegan friendly meals), plus a stipend of $260 per month.

Summer Jobs at the Outdoor Education Center
One of the most unique camping experiences takes place in Glen Helen. Summer bounds with the excitement of EcoCamp, a camp devoted to children having fun while learning about nature. Click on this link to find out more about the EcoCamp programs. Each EcoCamp session lasts five days.
Camps are lead by Naturalists with support from dorm counselors. Camps run for six weeks from June 16 to July 26. Dorm Counselors and Naturalists are expected to arrive in time for the start of orientation and training on June 8.
Requirements for all positions include maturity, respect for nature, and experience working with children. All summer staff must be at least 18 or older. Background checks are preformed on all prospective employees.

Transportation is the responsibility of staff, the village of Yellow Springs is within walking distance. We are not able host children or pets.
2008 Positions
Naturalist: Teach and inspire children to care for the environment as a Glen Helen Ecocamp Naturalist! Naturalists are charge of designing and leading week-long camps on a variety of environmental themes for children ages 5-15. Successful candidates must have at least two years of college, experience working with children, and a desire and willingness to engage in environmental education. Naturalist positions are offered first to current Schoolcamp Naturalists, with unfilled naturalist positions becoming available in late-March. Naturalists must possess current First Aid and CPR certifications from American Red Cross or American Heart Association, or plan to obtain certification before training begins. Pay rate is $194 per week, plus housing. Meals provided from Monday breakfast through Friday lunch; some weekend food also available. |
Dorm Counselors: Dorm counselors are responsible for taking care of the campers in the dorms during dorm time and at night, assisting the Naturalists on the trails when needed, and participating in evening programs and other activities. Dorm Counselors must be at least 18 years old, enjoy working with children, and have a love for the outdoors. Dorm Counselors must possess current First Aid and CPR certifications from American Red Cross or American Heart Association, or plan to obtain certification before training begins. Breakfast Cook: Responsible for cooking hearty breakfasts for summer campers and staff Monday – Friday, 7:00-9:00 am beginning June 11, and ending July 29th. Pay rate is $124 per week. (Application) |
