General Ecocamp Information

tr

Ecocamp is a summer camp experience for children ages 5-15. Ecocamps are an exciting alternative to recreational camps, where kids are immersed in nature discovery and exploration.

Six different environmental-themed camps run simultaneously at the Outdoor Education Center.  Children are with their individual camps during most of the day, but mix with children from other camps during dorm time, at meals, and for evening programs.

Where Ecocamps Take Place

Ecocamps take place at the Outdoor Education Center in Glen Helen Nature Preserve, a beautiful 1,000 acre nature preserve with more than twenty miles of trails winding over waterfalls, through forests, and to the famous Yellow Spring. The Outdoor Education Center has modern camp facilities. Children sleep in cabin-like dorms, and eat three hot meals in the dining hall.

Ecocamp Staff

Each camp is led by a Naturalist who is college age or older. Naturalists are selected for their sensitivity, creativity, and enthusiasm for the outdoors and for working with children. Dorm Counselors stay with the students during dorm time and help the Naturalists on the trails. Dorm Counselors are eighteen years or older and have graduated high school. They are selected based upon dependability, ability to exercise good judgment, and interest in working with children.

Ecocamp Schedule

Camps are five days long. Overnight camps begin Monday at 9am and run until Friday at 2pm. Day camps run Monday through Thursday from 9am to 3:30pm, and Friday from 9am to 2pm.  At pick-up on Friday, parents or guardians watch the Ecocamp Parent Program, a short production by campers that highlights their experiences at Glen Helen.

Registration
A $100 deposit is required for each enrollment to reserve the camper’s place. The deposit is applied toward the tuition fee.
