My room, my roommate, my hall

Less is more at Antioch!

Bring what you need to make your personal space comfortable, but don’t bring so much that you can’t fit in a room with a roommate!  And remember that you’ll be leaving on co-op before you know it and will wish you had slimmed down the number of possessions you have to store. Your room will have a bed, desk, chair, dresser, and closet for each roommate. A suggested list

You and your Roommate

Living with a roomie is definitely one of the most exciting, interesting and, potentially challenging parts of your Antioch experience.  Sometimes, two people are put in a room together and they just “click.”  They like all the same music and movies, they have the same decorating taste, they can study at the same time and are both very sound sleepers.  They go through their Antioch experience together and they’re best friends from then on.

We’ll try very hard to match you up with someone you’ll get along with, if not become lifetime friends with.  One of the ways you can help us do that is with our housing preference form (available to new students through your FirstClass e-mail account).  With it, you can describe yourself in terms of the way you want to live.  Whether you’re a private person or a social butterfly, the information you provide can help us put you in a room that you can call your home (for a little while, anyway).  This is also the place to let us know about anything that falls under the Americans with Disabilities Act, so that we can provide you with reasonable accommodations for your housing.

Do you know the perfect roomie already?  There’s a space on the housing preference form to put their name down.  The catch is that they have to request you, too.  So make sure that you both agree to be roommates.

If you think it just isn't working out, there is help available.

Living in a Hall

Your hall is a mini-community.  It’s where you’ll spend a good deal of your time, and we want to make it a welcoming, safe and comfortable space for you.  After all, you live here!

We’ve got several ways that we do that.

First is our outstanding Resident Assistants.  These folks are fellow students, employed by the Dean of Students office to live in the hall with you.  They’re there when you arrive on campus to help you get settled in.  They’re there throughout the semester to help you navigate through your Antioch experience.  And they’re there when you’re ready to leave for your co-op to help you find trunk lockers (or other storage) to store the stuff you’re not taking with you.

During the semester, your RA will invite you to hall meetings (to help you orient yourself to your new surroundings) and hall activities (so you can get to know the people that live in your hall).  Have an idea for a hall activity?  Share it with your RA!  She or he would be happy to help you plan a fun event for you and your hallmates.

Second, in order to help keep you safe, we have a great staff of security people who patrol the campus and buildings.  They’re very experienced in keeping the campus safe, and they’re keeping an eye out for you.  Also, there are a lot of things that you can do to help keep yourself safe.  Check out our campus safety and security info.

Finally, we feel that residence halls should reinforce healthy lifestyle choices, with that in mind all halls are non-smoking and there is to be no Alcohol in the halls.  residence halls.
