Work Project 2007: In the Glen
Continuing a long tradition, Antioch College is once again organizing a Work Project for Alumni willing to exchange sweat equity for fun and the camaraderie that comes with doing important work with friends new and old. Beginning Monday June 18th 9:00 AM and ending Thursday the 21st at noon this year’s project will focus primarily on Birch Manor in Glen Helen. Projects will include repairs, painting, window glazing, landscaping projects and more. We'll provide breakfast, lunch, gathering space, and housing. Glen volunteers will also be on hand for activities to unwind such as guided hikes, canoeing, and birding. Check the reunion web site for more details. There's nothing like hands-on effort to give you a concrete sense of accomplishment, and nothing better for supporting Antioch's future.
Built by Hugh Taylor Birch in 1931, Birch Manor stands tall at the south border of Glen Helen and is ideally suited for retreats and special gatherings. With its timeless structure and calming surroundings, the Birch Manor, built as a retreat from the world, has served its purpose for many residents. Just as there is pride in fulfilling Birch’s wishes by maintaining Glen Helen, there is joy to be had in seeing his house used as the haven it was intended to be. – From In the Glen, Spring 2007, Elizabeth Collier Author (Antioch College undergraduate)
Got Kids??!!
Why not send them to Eco Camp in the Glen during work project?
Imagine a summer camp where you can have fun while learning about the natural world! EcoCamps were created with this in mind. They are an exciting alternative to recreational camps and offer a quality outdoor experience.
Day camps and overnight camps are available during the work project week (Eco camps week 1) Camps last five days, and are lead by naturalists. Campers spend much of their time in theme-related activities with the group. There are also optional group activities and special events. Visit the Eco Camp website for more information and to register.
