MacArthur Fellows
Antioch College has produced seven MacArthur “Genius” Fellows. Only five schools, including Harvard, Princeton, and the University of California, Berkeley, have produced more. Yale and Stanford are among four schools whose graduates have also received seven of the coveted grants. Antioch College Alumni MacArthur Fellows include:
- Stephen J. Gould '63, Paleontologist and author.
- Mark Strand '57, Poet Laureate of the United States in 199-1991.
- Sylvia A. Law '64, Civil rights lawyer and Professor of Law.
- Virginia Hamilton (Adoff) '57, Writer and author of more than 30 books including Zeely, The People Could Fly: American Black Folk Tales, and Jagurandi.
- Deborah Willen Meier '54, Educator, director and founder of the Central Park East public schools in New York.
- Wendy Ewald '74, Photographer, Teacher and research Associate at the Center For Democracy Studies, Duke University.
- Lisa D. Delpit '74 Teacher, educator and leading authority on multi-cultural education.
