Selection Criteria
Academic Requirements
Must be admitted by the Office of Admissions before a student may be considered for the Coretta Scott King/Delta Scholarship.
Must be enrolled full-time or planning to enroll full-time to receive award.
First-time first-year, transfer, or continuing students are eligible to apply.
Continuing students must progress on time, remain in good academic standing and not have received an academic warning. First-time students must be admitted with a Community Responsibility Scholarship award (Olympia Brown, Algo Henderson, and Jewel Graham).
Poised and articulate.
Demonstrate leadership skills and be able to discuss the role and responsibilities of a leader.
Community Service Requirements
Recognize Coretta Scott King as an articulate leader, who, through her leadership made significant advancements for humanity. Scholarship recipients can be called upon by the Coretta Scott King Center for Cultural & Intellectual Freedom to participate in community service activities.
Financial Requirements
Demonstrates financial need according to the FAFSA with an EFC of less than $10,000.
U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
Must submit the Antioch College Information Form to the Financial Aid Office by application deadline.
Must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the federal government by application deadline.

Finances
Scholarship Award
To commemorate the life and work of Coretta Scott King (’51), Delta Airlines is funding an annual $10,000 scholarship to be announced each year on the anniversary of her birthday, April 27th.
This scholarship is intended to help an Antioch student realize their college potential.
It is to be used for tuition and fees for full-time attendance at Antioch College for the year in which it is awarded.
Students are eligible to apply each year for up to four years.
Term of Scholarship
One-year Scholarship (Students are eligible to apply each year up to four years)
The Coretta Scott King/Delta Scholarship is a one-year scholarship that is to be used for tuition and fees for full-time attendance at Antioch College for the year in which it is awarded. Students are eligible to apply each year for up to four years.
Leaves of Absence
Students that choose to take a leave of absence from the college will no longer remain eligible for the scholarship for the remainder of the year. No funds will be allocated to students while they are on leave. Students are eligible to reapply for the scholarship upon returning to the college as long as they have not been awarded the scholarship for four years.
Off-Campus Programs
Coretta Scott King/ Delta Airlines Scholarship recipients participating in off-campus programs (e.g., A.E.A., Co-op, exchange) are eligible for assistance during their award year while off-campus. Scholars are limited to one semester off-campus during the academic year the scholarship is awarded.
Allocation Guidelines
The amount and process for disbursing the Coretta Scott King/Delta Airlines Scholarship funds will be made known to the Scholars in writing in mid-April by the Office of the President. A copy of the award announcement will be sent to the Office of Admissions, Public Relations, and Financial Aid. A formal announcement will be made on April 27th, the anniversary of Coretta Scott King’s birthday.
The funds should be disbursed as follows:
- School-Year Support of $10,000 per year in a Coretta Scott King/Delta Scholarship which will be awarded on their financial aid package.
- Students must be in good financial standing with the Business Office (no outstanding bills due on their student account) and be registered full-time before receiving any Coretta Scott King/Delta Airlines Scholarship funds.
- Coretta Scott King/Delta Airlines Scholarship recipients must write a “thank you” letter to Delta before receiving any funds. This letter is to be sent to the financial aid office so that scholarship funds can be disbursed.
Replacement Students
Coretta Scott King/Delta Airlines Scholarship recipients who withdraw from the college for any reason may be replaced in the current awarding academic year. Replacement may take place in the second semester with the scholarship runner-up(s).
Dismissal
The formal procedure for reviewing and dismissing Coretta Scott King/Delta Airlines Scholars who do not meet the expectations of the scholarship must be reviewed and approved by the committee. The committee will submit in writing to the Financial Aid Office, Public Relation, and Business Office a student that have been dismissed.
The dismissal policy and related procedures for the Coretta Scott King/Delta Airlines Scholarship will be made known to the Scholars in writing.
Committees
Selection Committee
The Selection Committee will consist of at least one representative from the following departments: Coretta Scott King Center, admissions and financial aid office, dean of student’s office, and the Chair of the Scholarship Committee or designated faculty member.
The Selection Committee will be responsible for updating the scholarship application and guidelines each year.
The Selection Committee will be responsible for contacting the Public Relation’s Office at each stage of the process. The Public Relations Office will be in charge of advertising to continuing and new students and other constituents in the form of e-mails, web postings, online application, special visit programs, multicultural events, etc.
The Selection Committee is responsible for overseeing the entire process of selecting incoming Coretta Scott King/Delta Airlines Scholars. They will meet the first week in April to determine who the winner is.
The President will have the last right of refusal on the selection of the scholarship winner. Selected candidate will be notified in writing in mid-April by the Office of the President.
A formal announcement will be made on April 27th, the anniversary of Coretta Scott King’s birthday.
Application Process
Submit by 4/2/07
A student must submit the following to the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid by Monday, April 2, 2007 to be considered for the scholarship:
- Coretta Scott King/Delta Airlines Scholarship Application
- Antioch College Information Form
- 1000-word Essay
- Three letters of recommendation along with the Recommendation Form
Letters of recommendation should include two academic references (professor or advisor) and one reference from a community member or co-op advisor. - Students must submit a 1000-word essay on one of the following topics:
- How Coretta Scott King won victories for humanity and how her victories have either impacted your life or the lives of those around you; or
- Address what you believe your role is in achieving advancements for humanity and how your leadership skills will enable you to fulfill this role.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be submitted to the federal government by April 2, 2007.
