Health Services
The Student Infirmary (PBX 1198) is open on a walk-in basis from 9:30 to 5:00, Monday-Friday. The nurse may be able to treat you on campus, or she or other staff can help you make an appointment at the Yellow Springs Family Health Center.
The Family Health Center is a group of family practice physicians affiliated with Wright State University Medical School. In case of emergency when the Infirmary is closed, call the Family Health Center at 937-767-7369. It is located just three blocks from campus.
Nearby towns offer Urgent Care centers for health emergencies that can’t wait. Yellow Springs has an excellent ambulance service (9-1-1) located just a minute from campus.
Student Health Insurance
Part I
All students are covered with a basic health insurance that includes free care at the Infirmary, and covers the cost of basic office visits when referred to the Family Health Center. At times when these facilities are not available, or when the student is not in Yellow Springs, Part I provides up to $1,000 for each covered accident, and small amounts for emergency room services, specialist consulting fees, lab and x-ray expense, physician’s visits, and prescription drugs.
Part II
All students must join the Antioch College Major Medical Expense insurance, unless they have comparable coverage through their or their parents’ major health plan, AND they specifically request to waive Antioch’s plan before August 20. A waiver card is enclosed in the health insurance brochure that families receive from the Business Office in July.
Both Part I and Part II are described more fully in the brochure (to be added later). Coverage begins on September 1.
If you have questions about coverage, please call the Office of Student Affairs at, 937-769-1160, or call Acordia, the insurance agent, at 800-228-6768. Claim forms are always available here from the Acordia Student Plan Center. (Choose Antioch, Forms, Claim Form)
In the following weeks, check back for additional information about student services.
