Antioch Student Rights Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

Family Education & Privacy Act (FERPA)

The Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act of 1974 grants to students certain rights, privileges, and protections relative to individually identifiable student education records, which are maintained by the College.

Specifically:
(1) Students' educational records (with the exception of directory information) will be released to third parties outside Antioch only with the written consent of the student.
(2) Students have the right to inspect their own educational records, which are available in the Registrar's Office.
(3) Students have the right to challenge the content of their records. The complete Student Records Policy is published in the Antioch College Catalog.

Release of Directory Information

FERPA permits the release of Directory information to third parties outside the institution without written consent of the student, provided the student has been given the opportunity to withhold such disclosure. Antioch College defines Directory information to include student's name, dates of attendance, withdrawal or graduation dates, degrees conferred, and major field of study.

You are given the opportunity to withhold the release of Directory information during academic and co-op registration for each term. There is a check-off box on the registration form which you can use to request that Directory information not be released. You also may request at any time that Directory information be withheld for the term by informing the Registrar's Office in writing of your request. This must be done once a year and is only good for the academic year in progress.
